At Alderman’s Green Primary School, we regard the safeguarding of all children as our main priority. We believe that we all have the right to be happy, to be safe and to learn. We all have the responsibility to make this happen.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy which can be viewed in the policies section on our website. Or if preferred you can access our policy using the link below.

We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. All school staff are trained in safeguarding and Child Protection, and are trained to look out for signs of physical/emotional harm or neglect and are required to report these to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

At Alderman’s Green, we are proud of the support we are able to offer our families. We have a friendly pastoral team that work hard to overcome any barriers to learning.

  • Miss White – Designated Safeguarding Lead, Pastoral Manager and Early Help Lead
  • Miss Williams – Learning Mentor and Thrive Practitioner
  • Mr Daly – Learning Mentor and Thrive Practitioner
  • Miss Hill – Learning Mentor and Attendance Lead

Our team can support with a whole range of issues such as attendance, low self-esteem, anxiety, friendship, issues at home; that may impact on the children’s ability to learn. Support can be offered in different ways such as group interventions, 1:1 sessions or Thrive based therapies.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

Early Help…

  • Is for children of all ages and not just the very young.
  • Can be very effective in supporting a child, young person and/or their family at the beginning of the Early Help intervention or to step down from a statutory service as well as preventing escalation of issues.
  • Is important because there is clear evidence that it results in better outcomes for our children.

At Alderman’s Green we offer:

  • Taking the time to listen to children’s concerns. Class teachers and teaching assistants are usually the first people to notice if a child is worried or who a child wishes to confide in. They will provide pastoral support and seek extra help if needed.
  • We have Mr Daly, Miss Williams and Miss Hill who provide pastoral support around the school. They work with children, individually or in groups.
  • Our Safeguarding Lead Miss White coordinates safeguarding in school and provides training for staff. Miss White completes Early Help support for our families. She also liaises with the Local Authority Early Help Co-ordinator when external agency involvement is needed.
  • Miss White can meet with parents and school staff to draw up a plan of support

How will we know when Early Help is needed?

Parents, carers, children and staff may tell us that support is required, or practitioners may identify that there are emerging needs and services might be required, as there are worries or concerns about a child.

We will assess the needs of the family and this may identify that an Early Help Assessment and the subsequent action that needs to be taken. There are also agencies which you can contact independently should you wish to do so, who might be able to help and provide the support for your family.
